BIOGRAPHY

Simran Shah is a composer and performer currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in music at Haverford College, with a concentration in composition and piano performance. Feeling mesmerized by music’s transformative nature, she turned to piano and saxophone to explore her passion. She performed saxophone in her high school wind ensemble, jazz band, and pit orchestra. As a pianist and keyboardist, Simran enjoys performing as a pit orchestra and chamber musician, and her love for playing has led her to the stage of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall several times – at as young as 10 years old.

As a composer Simran enjoys working with filmmakers, with her recent projects including Kit Briggs’s screendance “What It Made Me Feel”, and Benelli Amosah’s short film, “Love, Me”. In June 2023, she was also a composer at the Mostly Modern Festival, where she had her piece, “phantom’s sanctuary” premiered. Simran’s musical inspiration comes from a variety of genres and musical styles, ranging from Western classical, to Hindustani traditional music, to electronic/experimental music, and more. Simran was the music intern for Water for Elephants (2024) at Broadway’s Imperial Theater, a Brooklyn-based audio studio specializing in sonic branding, original music composition, and sound design for advertising.

At the heart of Simran’s musical interests lies a deep passion for collaborating with and learning from all types of artists. She would love to use her musical voice alongside performers, visual artists, writers, and anyone else, to create something beautiful in its own, unique way.
